Por Larranaga is a brand with a long history. Founded in 1834, it enjoys a well earned reputation for its consistency and good presentation. Por Larrañaga cigars are handmade using long-filler tobacco leaves harvested from the world famous Pinar del Rio region of Cuba.
Globally the range includes cigars made using both the ‘tripa larga, totalmente a mano’ – long filler, totally hand made technique, and the ‘tripa corta, totalmente a mano’ – short filler, totally handmade method, but in the UK only the former is offered.
47 - Limited to 1,500 Boxes!
The Por Larrañaga Larrañaga 47 or PL47 for short is a classic “Churchill” vitola, this is the first time a UK Habanos Regional Edition has been offered to the market in this format. As with some previous UK Regional Editions, an old papeleta from the brand has been recreated to dress the outside of the box.
Unlike most cabinets/boxes housing fifty Habanos, the cigars are layered in three rows of thirteen and one row of eleven rather than tied into a bundle with ribbon. This style of box is considered an outstanding way of ageing cigars in the medium and long term.
Only 1,500 numbered boxes have been produced which will be made available exclusively to the UK market
The name Por Larrañaga, which means “By Larrañaga”, was first registered in Havana by Ignacio Larrañaga in 1834. This was just 24 years after the very first cigar brands were registered, and makes Por Larrañaga the oldest brand of handmade Habanos still in production.
Although Por Larrañaga is classified light to medium bodied, and is relatively subtle and easy going, it has a reputation for outstanding ageing potential. Previous UK Regional Editions from the brand, most notably the 2007 Magnifico, have born this out and have become extremely collectable.

The Por Larrañaga Larrañaga 47 delivers a refined, mild-to-medium experience defined by Cuba’s classic Churchill format. It opens with gentle notes of cedar, toasted brioche, and wildflower honey before easing into its hallmark flavor profile of rich caramel sweetness, toasted nuts, and subtle baking spices. As the smoke progresses into the final third, darker accents of espresso, cocoa, and toasted oak emerge, finishing clean and smooth. It is an exceptionally balanced, elegant cigar that is delightful today and promises to evolve beautifully with a few years of humidor aging.
